Sure there is an emulated switch, but to be able to have something nearby where you get to work with it for real, nothing beats having live equipment.
Real equipment is very beneficial only if you don't use GNS3. Also, GNS3 is of no help on the switching end of things.

It appears cbr the new version he's finishing ICND2 right now I believe has quizzes built right in, which is nice. You also fbt the benefit of having practice exams included with it, and you can opt for an accountability coach who will call and check in on you from time to time to ccenh how things are going. I am getting this for a very good rate.
They are very expensive. This switch will not help you if you are looking to buy it for your CCENT study simply because it has no configuration interface. The differences can be learned in a few minutes.

So basically you get a full chapter written by Todd Lammle and 2 Nuggets from Jeremy Cioara where he will explain the basic principles of the chapter and a full Nugget where he gives more details about that particular technology!
